Has anybody else noticed that there's an entirely different Pooh in the first chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh than there is in the rest of the book? Pooh is known for being the Bear of Very Little Brain. Who's head is stuffed with fluff. Right? First of all, he comes up with the wild plan of using a balloon to get to the top of the tree and get the honey. Somewhat amusing but quite the creative problem-solving demonstration, if you ask me. Then he even took things further by pretending to be a little rain cloud and asking Christopher to walk about below him with an umbrella to make things more believable! Where does a brainless bear come up with this kind of creative genius? And check out the vocabulary and language that Mr. brainless spouts! He is also quite knowledgable about bees, even if they are the wrong sort: "...I think, if you did that, it would help the deception which we are practising on these bees." Then when Christopher returns, he continues: "I was beginning to get anxious. I have discovered that the bees are now definitely suspicious." "Shall I put my umbrella up?" you said. "Yes, but wait a moment. We must be practical. The important bee to deceive is the Queen Bee. Can you see which is the Queen Bee from down there?" Practicing Deceptions. Anxious. Suspicious. Bee theory. This doesn't sound like the crustimony proceedcake for our Silly ol' Bear. It does make him sound quite charming however. Feel free to comment. -CR
