I'm sorry I've been remiss in my thinking for the last couple of nights. This weekend, both Friday and Saturday nights, was my ten-year high school reunion. I had an absolute blast, and got in rather late both nights. Tonight you get one of the most often quoted passages of all of Pooh, I think, especially in light of Christopher's recent passing, but it bears repeating as it's of special significance after a reunion like that, seeing so many wonderful people that I hadn't seen in so long, and many of them, will never again. "Pooh, promise you won't forget about me, ever. Not even when I'm a hundred." Pooh thought for a little. "How old shall I be then?" "Ninety-nine." Pooh nodded. "I promise," he said. This is my favorite of all the chapters and it moves me every time I read it. This is the chapter that captures so poignantly the tragedy of "growing up" and losing touch with our childhood, and the hope that it never need really happen if we don't want it to. Some of you are still children. And some of you wish you were. And some, like me, are watching the years slip away and wondering where they went, and why we wasted them. But through it all, the most precious thing you will ever have, if you are lucky enough to find one, is a real true friend. Treasure them growing up, and treasure them growing old, and never ever forget them, not even when you're a hundred. ______ ______ _________________________________________________ / ____ \| __ \ | | \_| |__| | "It's Christopher Robin," he said. | | _| ___ / "Ah, then you'll be all right," said Piglet. | |___/ | | \ \ "You'll be quite safe with him..." \______/|_| \_\_________________________________________________
